Below are many images of the repairs and maintenance tasks that I have completed over the years.
The pictures were either taken by myself or my family, they are not generated or stock images.
I often don't end up taking pictures of the final product.

Before installing custom window trim

After installing custom window trim
The unfinished basement had windows that needed to be trimmed out to match the first floor. A combination of poplar and pine were used to create the casings and sills. Primed and painted.

Falling apart concrete step

Repaired and leveled steps
Long term the stairs are going to be replaced but the step needed to be taken care of while that work is scheduled.

Bedroom ceiling fan before

Replaced with a simple dimmable LED light

Ceiling fan in Kitchen

Replaced fan with modern style fan /light combo
Bedroom and Kitchen ceiling fixtures replaced before sale of home (after pictures are from real estate agent listings)

Enclosed stairs from basement to first floor

Opened up the wall to install railing
Full wall was cut back, stair treads extended, new oak treads stained and installed, skirt board and railing installed.

Removed old decking

Re-applied siding, installed diagonal decking and trim

Installed a fourth stair stringer

removed wooden balusters and installed black aluminum
Old deck boards removed, joists moved/adjusted to be 12" on center, diagonal decking added, additional stringer added to stairs, balusters changed from wood to metal, additional supports added to railing supports, entire deck stained

Opened up wall/ceiling for new AC lines

Patched and primed ceiling and wall
A/C Unit needed to be replaced, including the lines. Wall and ceiling were cut open, HVHC did their magic, patched and primed ready for final paint.

Layout on floor before installation

After installation. The fireplace insert was raised for stoop
Fireplace insert was covered with cultured stone. Mantle was added.

Before removing vanity/walls/mirror/floor

New vanity, tile, outlets

bathroom before cutting to the studs
Tile floor and walls before installing vanity/toilet
Pulled out wall and floor tile and replaced with large format tile.

basement wall before studs/insulation

Installation of shaved brick accent wall
Wall was framed and insulated, cement backer board installed, then shaved brick tiled added. No mortar between the bricks was a style choice.

Kitchen after think marble backer removed

After mosaic tile/glass backsplash installed
Take off 4" high backsplash and add mosaic tile

No before shots, completed this kitchen area
This entire kitchen, including the door and windows was a project I completed 30 years ago.

Much needed deck/porch replacement

Completed free standing deck under roof
This deck/porch on a mobile home needed to be replaced. Because of the existing roof causing some head clearance issues the stairs were moved to against the home. New footings needed to be installed because the prior installation was on top of patio blocks. The deck was free-standing with no connection to the mobile home.
Drylok flooring and opened up stairway
Basement went from foundation to waiting for carpeting. Drylok flooring, framed, insulated walls, drop ceiling added and angled to provide as much headroom as possible coming down the stairs. Railing ended up being stained.

Taped up and ready for spraying

Completed Entryway
The front door was 'wood color' but to change the color to black and to keep the woodgrain, it was cleaned, taped up and sprayed with a semi-gloss spray paint.

Basement bathroom before

New vanity, tile floor, mirror, light and cabinet
Basement bathroom refresh. The tiles were found on the discount rack at Home Depot. Home Depot also provided the vanity, faucet and lighting.

Do you have outlets that stop working once in a while? If your devices were wired using the 'back-stab' method its a pretty good chance this is the cause.
The solution? Wire-nuts and pig tails.

New floor - before trim

New floor - After trim
This flooring was bought at Floor and Decor to provide a water resistant floor to this basement.

show grab rails
Some grab rails needed to be installed against a fiberglass shower. Spacers had to be used between the back side of the fiberglass and the wall studs to avoid any deflection of the filberglass.

Pine doors stained and poly
Several doors had been upgraded to this craftsman style, the owner wanted the remaining hollow core doors to match.

Small entry way

Plaster/lath removed from hall/closet

Merging tile, hardwood and old kitchen floor

Space opened up
Old (real) 2x4 removed to open up a living room and kitchen from its tiny entry way. Tile was installed and because there was not enough original flooring some white oak was added to cover the exposed closet area.
This change allowed today-sized furniture to be brought into the living room.

Attic platform
Because of the blown in insulation, this attic was un-usable. Adding a platform made from 2x6 and 3/4" plywood provided much needed storage without downgrading the insulation value. The platform is accessible via the pull-down stairs.

Finishing up suspended ceiling work
Just one example of one of my suspended ceiling installations. This one included recessed lighting.

Deck with built-in seating

Deck stairs, almost complete
Wanted a deck with built-in seating.

Lots of measuring before cutting!
Lots of complicated pieces in this railing!

Old sliding door

New Fresh Door
Original to the home slider was failing, removed and replaced with an Anderson French door unit.

The house had hardwood floors but the blue indoor/outdoor carpet was covering it and that went into the bedroom. A custom oak threshold was created to deal with the different heights of the floor between the existing house and the addition.
It was later stained to match the flooring.

Family needed some special storage for their closets.
These are simple boxes made of 1/2" furniture grade plywood glued and nailed together (not designed for heavy weight). They were left natural (no iron on edges or painting).
The sweater unit includes 1/4" plywood backing.

This seems like a small issue but perhaps you have never taken the top off of your toilet tank

I can't remember how many sheds I've built for my family or myself. This is just one example where I installed a garage door on the end so the riding mower fit easily.
Down to the studs in this 2 family back when I had somewhat darker hair.

Back in the day when the DIY bug was passed down.
Thanks Dad!
